Local veteran set to conquer mountains!

Local man Ben Barker is a former member of 2nd Battalion the Rifles, he served from 2006 until 2015, when he received a medical discharge due to hearing loss caused by an IED in Sangin, Afghanistan in 2009 and a spinal problem which nearly rendered him wheelchair-bound. At first, diagnosed with PTSD, Ben struggled adapting to civilian life, despite this he used his rehab training and infantry ethics to move forward, constantly aspiring to be fitter and stronger each day than he was the day before.
Now he is planning to achieve what once seemed impossible by participating in an expedition to climb Mount Elbrus in Russia, the highest summit in Europe, with a group of fellow veterans in order to raise
awareness and funds for his chosen charities;
Just Rifles; Charity Appeal For Wounded Soldiers, Rock2Recovery & ExFor+.
Ben will be undertaking this expedition alongside his lifelong friend, also known as Marine E, a brother from his regiment who sustained life-changing injuries. This man is incredibly inspirational and will be completing the expedition (which is run by HST adventures) as a double amputee. Ben is looking for donations as well as sponsorship from local businesses in order to make this expedition a reality and raise funds for three vitally important UK charities.
