Christmas in Penzance

Christmas Markets, parades, late night shopping, entertainment and last-minute shopping on  Christmas Eve there are plenty of reasons to celebrate Christmas in Penzance this year. 

There’s range of fantastic events in locations dotted across the town. 

On 2nd December, there’s also a Christmas Craft  Fair between 10am and 4.30pm at The Acorn,  featuring 30 stalls over two floors. Plus a Christmas  gift and food shopping event in St Johns Hall on  2nd and 3rd December, from 10am to 4:30pm, try tasty delights or find a unique present for your  nearest and dearest. 

On the 9th December there is the chance to catch Father Christmas in his grotto from 11am – 3pm.

See Newlyn lit up on 15th December, whilst on the 16th December you can enjoy the popular  Humphry Davy Lantern Parade as it winds through the town at 4.30pm from Causewayhead to Chapel Street, via the Humphry Davy Statue to sing him ‘Happy Birthday’. Throughout the day you can enjoy the Christmas market with festive treats and artisan crafts plus Father Christmas’ Grotto, and more live music and entertainment to enjoy as you make your way through the town. 

Free Parking is provided in County Council Car Parks and Penlee Car Park courtesy of the Town  Council so no need to worry about getting back to the car, you can relax and make the most of all  there is on offer.

Then head along the coast and catch the lights being turned on at Mousehole at 6:30pm to complete the day, even the most Bah Humbug amongst us should feel a little festive!

There are plenty more shopping opportunities with stalls and entertainment from 16th to 21st December in Wharfside Shopping Centre, daily from 10am to 4.30pm. There’s late  night shopping throughout Penzance every  Thursday in December in the weeks leading up to Christmas Day.

Montol Festival on 21st December is a celebration of the mid-winter solstice including dance,  procession and fire! This amazing display has masked revellers line the street for Cornish Guise  dancing accompanied by traditional music and fire-lit processions. Parades through the town from 

2pm, Christmas market, music, dancing and mayhem!

 Christmas Eve is your last chance to pick up that final elusive gift, from 10am to 4.30pm – perfect  for those who lead busy lives and leave it all to the last minute, or those who forgot just one crucial thing.

At Penlee House there’s Crafts for Christmas throughout December and new exhibitions: The Art of Frederic Stuart Richardson (1855 – 1934) with rarely seen works from a private collection and The Gibson Dynasty: Pioneers of Photography. Their pictures document the working lives of the people of West Cornwall as well as their passion for observing the ancient landscape.

Don’t forget to vote for your favourite Shop Window and School window on the Christmas Trail for the chance to win £100. This year there is a theme of ‘Bells’ and the displays are inspiring.

Finally, see some of the architectural gems of the town lit up as part of the Celebration of Light put together by Penzance Business Improvement District (BID).
