You may remember chocolate-makers, Cornwall’s Chocolate Cove from our first edition.
Well, we recently caught up with founder Judy Hedden over a coffee and a deliciously healthy, melt-in-the-mouth Luscious Raspberry chocolate (pictured), to hear some exciting news about the company’s collaboration with an international wildlife charity.
Judy set the scene, “I’ve always had a passion for wild animals, especially lions. I remember being very young and saving up my 50p pocket money for weeks and weeks to buy a huge lion I’d fallen in love with in a toy shop window. So, when The Born Free Foundation got in touch and asked if I was interested in collaborating, it was literally a dream come true.”
The Born Free Foundation (www.bornfree.org.uk/) works worldwide to put a stop to individual wild animal suffering and protect threatened species in the wild. The charity was founded by the two actors, Virginia McKenna OBE & Bill Travers OBE who starred in the hugely popular 1966 film, “Born Free,” that tells the story of Joy Adamson and her experiences raising a lion cub called Elsa. Together with their son Will Travers OBE the charity’s aim has extended to include other big cats, marine life, bears, primates, wolves, elephants and many other species.
Cornwall’s Chocolate Cove has created a chocolate especially for The Born Free Foundation; “We did lots of blending of flavours and tasting with Born Free,” says Judy, “and came up with a double layered chocolate which they felt reflected their love and passion for freedom and protection: Rich, dark & warming Madagascan Vanilla layered with vibrant & zesty Lemon & Baobab Sorbet, topped with Fair Trade Pineapple! We then donate 25p from the sale of every Chocolate Cove Born Free chocolate, directly to the charity.”
At the Penwith Eye, we were lucky enough to taste this amazing bud tingling blend of flavours and are delighted to announce it’s now available to all via the Cornwall Chocolate Cove website along with the rest of their delicious range: www.cornwallschocolatecove.com
Healthy chocolate AND for a good cause – that’s the kind of chocolate we like!
